🌿🔎3rd graders as field scientists! 👩🏾‍🔬🌱🧑🏻‍🔬 For this Muddy Boots, students advanced their foundational field science skills acquired in their years at Chillicothe Primary, by applying field science processes through a comprehensive botany study.
🌼✍️📐This integrated learning experience combined life science, literacy, and real-world math applications, including perimeter, measurement, and data collection. Utilizing the citizen science app, Seek, students collaborated to identify and document native flora species. They then conducted a comparative study of the Goldenrod species, culminating in official field notes that elevated their scientific drawing skills.
🗒️🌱🙌 We are incredibly proud of our young field scientists! 💙🤍

2nd grade muddy boots is a wrap! Some of these field scientists have been learning at Muddy Boots since their first days in preschool. Every year, twice a year. 💙
We believe in this real world application of classroom learning and the competencies it builds, like compassion, communication and critical thinking. 🤍
We are so grateful for the Ross County Park District for the space and expertise that has helped cultivate these amazing experiences for our students. 🌲
❓Discussion prompts for your 2nd grade field scientist:
- Tell me about the data you documented at Muddy Boots.
- What are differences between cyclical and linear changes? Give an example.
- Tell me about your classroom learning that connected to your experience at Buzzard’s Roost.
- What is your favorite part of being a field scientist? Is this something you would want to be when you grow up?
- Is all change good?

It's always so rewarding to see our alumni doing great things!

Chillicothe City School District is proud to congratulate CHS alumnus Benjamin Yandila for successfully completing the Leadership Launchpad Program through the OHIO Robert D. Walter Center for Strategic Leadership at Ohio University!

Benjamin has shown outstanding commitment, reflection, and growth throughout this multi-workshop leadership journey—culminating in earning his Leadership Challenge Coin, a symbol of integrity, teamwork, and purpose-driven leadership.

The Leadership Launchpad helps Ohio University students explore who they are as leaders, understand how they influence others, and build the foundational skills needed to lead with purpose—on campus, in their careers, and beyond.

Once a Cavalier, Always a Cavalier!

Mrs. Stepp’s 8th grade science class used stream tables to observe the effects of erosion and deposition. Students watched as their “streams” carried sediment to a new location, creating a delta at the end of their catch basins. This was a great hands on lab to teach students about water erosion!

Chillicothe Middle School achieved truly outstanding marks on the Ohio School Report Cards that highlight our success in moving students forward:

Chillicothe Middle School: Exceeding Expectations

Progress Component: 4 Stars! This excellent rating shows students are making significant academic growth in ELA, Math and Science based on the students’ past performance and in comparison to students at other schools.

Gap Closing Component: 5 Stars! CMS Significantly Exceeded State Standards in closing learning gaps. This confirms that all student groups- including gifted students, English language learners, special students, etc. - are growing faster than their peers at other schools. CMS is the only middle school in Ross County to earn 5 Stars in Gap Closing over the past 3 years.
