CCSD FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY: LET'S PROTECT OUR CAVALIERS!!💙🤍
🩺 MEASLES AWARENESS & PREVENTION REMINDER
With a reported case of measles in neighboring Pike County, we want to remind our school community of the importance of protecting our students, families, and staff.
Measles is a highly contagious virus, but vaccination is the best protection!
💉1. CHECK YOUR FAMILY'S MMR VACCINATION STATUS
The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps, and rubella.
✅ Children should receive two doses:
🔹First dose at 12-15 months of age.
🔹Second dose at 4-6 years of age.
✅ School-age children and teens who have not received both recommended doses should talk with their healthcare provider about catching up.
✅ Adults should check their vaccination records and discuss their need for vaccination with their medical provider.
Two doses of MMR vaccine are approximately 97% effective at preventing measles.
🤒 2. PLEASE KEEP SICK STUDENTS HOME
Help us keep our schools healthy by keeping children home when they are ill (and consult with a healthcare professional, especially if they have:
🔹Fever
🔹 A new or unexplained rash
🔹 Worsening cough or other respiratory symptoms
🔹 Vomiting or diarrhea that prevents them from participating comfortably in school
Measles symptoms typically begin with a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. A red rash often develops a few days later, starting on the face and spreading downward.
📞 3. KNOW WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL CARE
If you or your child has symptoms that could be measles or you believe you have been exposed:
🔹Keep your child home and away from others
🔹Call your healthcare provider immediately for instructions.
🔹Call before going to a doctor's office, urgent care, or hospital. Do not arrive unannounced, as special arrangements may be needed to prevent exposing others.
🔹Seek emergency care for difficulty breathing, severe dehydration, confusion, unusual difficulty waking, or rapidly worsening symptoms. Call ahead to the emergency department if measles is suspected.
Please do not send a student with a suspected measles infection to school or directly to the Cavalier Care Clinic.
