Meet Kim Hurst, Chillicothe Primary School Principal

As the 2021-2022 school year begins, our administrative team welcomes Kim Hurst as the new K-2 principal at Chillicothe Primary School. Help us welcome Kim to the Cavalier community by learning more about what she’s hoping to accomplish this year.

Question: What have you done before coming to CCSD?

Answer: I am beginning my 29th year in education. Prior to joining CCSD, I taught vocal music in Texas, New York and Central Ohio. Most recently, I served as a data coach, department chair, instructional coach and small learning community leader for the New Albany Local School District, where I was recognized as an inspirational and influential district teacher and has mentored several teachers. I have a bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in Vocal Music Education, a master’s degree in Vocal Music Education from the University of North Texas and Kodály certificate from Capital University. In addition, I have a master’s Teacher License from the Ohio Department of Education and a Principal License from Concordia University with a Master of Arts in School Leadership.

Q: What are you most looking forward to at Chillicothe Primary School?

A: I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to build relationships and connections with students, staff and parents to best meet the needs of our school community. I have been impressed with the dedication and commitment of the CPS staff and look forward to a great school year!

Q: What are your goals for CPS and the district?

A: My main objective is to create a learning environment that focuses on best practices for young learners that builds a strong foundation for future school success and a true love for learning. We will accomplish this by continuing to implement our new Literacy Collaborative Program, state-recognized STEM curriculum and Leader in Me Program.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

A: In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children. I also enjoy working out at the gym, walking my dog or taking a long bike ride.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like parents to know?

A: An effective leader is one who serves and partners with the community. As a parent of three children myself, I understand the importance of communication and trust in our school. Please do not hesitate at any time to reach out to me or the school staff with your ideas, feedback or ways to improve our learning community.

Welcome, Kim!
