Bret Mavis is no stranger to the Chillicothe City School District – he previously worked with Chillicothe Intermediate School as an assistant principal. He has also worked with the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center as a personal development instructor, working with students and operating the high school learning lab, and at Zane Trace Local Schools as a middle school principal. Mr. Mavis is excited to join CCSD once again as the grade 7-8 Dean of Students.
His role as the dean of students is to promote a safe, respectful learning environment that all stakeholders feel comfortable participating in. Mr. Mavis values being visible throughout the Chillicothe Middle School building and being accessible to all students, staff and families throughout the day. His main goal is to help ensure the safety and social-emotional wellbeing of all students and staff through active listening, approachability and accessibility. He assists students in preparing to be responsible, productive citizens of Ross County and maintaining a positive attitude.
Outside of CCSD, Mr. Mavis is active in the community through his involvement as a Zane Trace Local Schools board member. He also serves as a university clinical educator and adjunct professor in the education department at Ohio University – Chillicothe.
Mr. Mavis spends his free time participating in and coaching numerous sports, including American Legion baseball for Post 757. He loves traveling, hiking, attending sporting events and being outdoors with his wife, Angela.
