CCSD Student Teaching Program Propels Careers of Future Teachers

As McKinley Mitten finishes her education degree, she has been working at Chillicothe Intermediate School as a student teacher, strengthening her skills and engaging with students. She says that her time at CCSD has prepared her for her future career path and taught her new skills and tactics.

What does the student teaching program look like at CCSD?

At CCSD, the student teaching program is very welcoming and informative. I have felt extremely welcomed by all the teachers and staff. I have also been able to learn many strategies and skills that are new to me. CCSD has been a great place to get exposure to new experiences and scenarios.

What do you do in your role?

As a student teacher, I work one-on-one with students on a daily basis in a 6th grade special education classroom. My goal in the classroom is to help the students work towards their IEP goals and make progress in their education.

How has this student teaching program impacted your career path?

CCSD’s student teaching program has prepared me for my future career path. At CCSD, I have had the opportunity to experience and learn new skills, strategies and management styles by the teachers and staff I am surrounded by. CCSD’s student teaching program has made me a better teacher and has allowed me to learn by observation and example.

What do you like most about teaching?

It’s hard to pick one thing I like the most about teaching because there are so many things I enjoy! I love being able to make connections with all my students and seeing the individual growth that they all make.

Anything else?

I wanted to become a teacher so that I can make a difference in the lives of not only the students but the students’ families as well. I also want to be able to give back to my community and support all the future youth. The reason I want to be a special education teacher is because I want to be able to give students the specific supports that they need to help them be successful in life. I want to be able to become a lifelong ally for my students and help them achieve all their goals.
