Teachers in the Chillicothe City Schools are Highly qualified by the federal definition. The number of Academic Stipends have increased each year as teachers work to upgrade their certificates and licenses and learn new ways to instruct Chillicothe City School students.
One hundred forty-five of the two hundred twenty-two certified staff in the school district have a masters or masters plus degree.
Our veteran staff is one of our greatest assets. One hundred and fifty-nine of two hundred and twenty-two (68.4%) of the certificated staff in the district have eleven or more years of service in education. With their many years of experience, they are able to meet the needs of the students and assist in our mentoring programs with our new teachers. They are also the reason why our curriculum, extracurricular activities, and overall educational programs are successful. They are also considered highy qualified by the new standards and are instrumental in us meeting the new federal guidelines established through the No Child Left Behind Act.
During the 2006-07 school year our new staff included four entry-year teachers. As we work through fund reductions, the challenges will continue to increase as state funding continues to control many of the decisions we make.
We will always provide classes at all levels for at-risk learners, students with learning disabilities, physically and behaviorally handicapped and academically talented students. We will also continue to offer assistance with referrals from staff and parents to students with counselors and psychologists.
Our nurses will assist with vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening as well as daily health screening.
Private tutoring, home instruction, and summer school are available to students who require educational assistance. Our counseling staff helps students understand and cope with their problems. Counselors also monitor guidance and testing functions, scheduling and related activities.
The Chillicothe City School District has a reputation of being a quality educational system, and it is our intent to maintain that image. The staff is committed to excellence and works each day to create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. The overall climate is designed to be one where the administration, teachers, students and parents are proud of what is happening in our schools. Our main goal is to maximize learning for the children and to make this goal a reality.
